Mom Was Given “Three Months To Live” And Was “Planning Her Funeral” After Visiting The Hospital For Shoulder Pain

A mother who sought treatment for shoulder pain has disclosed her heartbreaking diagnosis, which has left her with only months to live.

Erika Diarte-Carr, a 33-year-old mother of two, has discovered that her agony is terminal, and she is now organizing her own funeral.

Erika presented herself to the emergency room just three years prior, complaining of excruciating shoulder pain.

Following a thorough examination by medical personnel, she suffered a heartbreaking blow, and as her symptoms worsen, she must now be ready to pass away.

She described how she had been hiding her condition on her fundraising page, which was set up to collect money for her burial.

Erika said: “I have been ashamed and embarrassed for people to know the truth—that I have kept this a secret for as long as I could, but the physical effects are starting to take control, and I can’t hide it any longer.”

“I’ve never been good at accepting or asking for help, but unfortunately, I believe I’ve come to a point in my life and health where that is no longer an option for me. I am no longer able to physically work, which has put a major financial burden on me.”

Regretfully, it was discovered that she had numerous tumors spread throughout her body in addition to a very aggressive form of small cell lung cancer.

Erika has been a strong role model for her five-year-old daughter Ailiyah and her seven-year-old son Jeremiah during her three years of cancer treatment.

However, she was informed a little over a week ago that she only had three months to live.

The day before US Mother’s Day, May 7, 2022, was the day she received her rare sort of cancer diagnosis: small cell lung carcinoma.

She was allowed to discontinue medication once her condition improved in order to monitor her progress. However, on January 17, 2024, she developed Cushing’s syndrome, a rare hormonal ailment brought on by an excessive amount of cortisol exposure.

She gained weight quickly as a result of this new diagnosis, which also caused her body to enlarge and her muscles and bones to weaken.

She had been scheduled to resume therapy on September 18, 2024, but she has chosen to postpone it in order to spend the remainder of her days with her kids.

She found out how long she had left on that same day.

She wrote on her GoFundMe page: “Unfortunately, I wasn’t given the best news. Due to my prognosis, I have decided to discontinue treatments as they will no longer help. I have been given three months to live.”

“Three months to spend with my babies and loved ones. Three months to make the best of what time I have left.”

“During these next couple of months, I need to make sure my kids will be okay after I am gone. I am faced now with the most difficult thing of planning my own funeral. Due to me not being able to work for months now, I do not have any finances saved up or any life insurance set aside for this situation.”

“I have looked into the expenses, and I need to raise about $5,000 to ensure funeral costs are covered, plus I want to leave something behind for my babies.”
