Man with facial disfigurement asked to leave restaurant for ‘scaring customers’: ‘I hadn’t even sat down’

Oliver Bromley, a 42-year-old man, was asked to leave a restaurant in London after staff said he was “scaring customers.”

He had just finished a treatment for Neurofibromatosis Type 1, a condition that causes harmless tumors to grow on nerves, and went there for lunch.

When he tried to order, he was told to leave because other customers complained about his appearance. The staff said he was making people feel uncomfortable.

Bromley was surprised and upset, as this was the first time he faced such treatment. He hoped his story would help people understand his condition better.

After reaching out to the restaurant and getting no reply, he reported the incident to the police, who called it a hate crime.

Nerve Tumours UK and UKHospitality are working together to train staff and raise awareness in the hospitality industry to prevent this from happening again.
