During their interview at the Albies, George and Amal Clooney spoke with journalists about their support for one another, but their appearance sparked rumors of plastic surgery surrounding Amal.

The Albies are named in honor of anti-apartheid activist Justice Albie Sachs, who was awarded the Lifetime Achievement in Pursuit of Justice at the inaugural event in 2022.

In 2024, the Lifetime Achievement in Pursuit of Justice went to Dolores Huerta. Memory Banda was honored in the Justice for Women category and Luis Carlos Diaz in the Justice for Journalists group.

Other honorees are Nadia Murad for the Justice for Defenders of the Rule of Law category and the movements Women Wage Peace and Women of the Sun were recognized in the Justice for Survivors group.

Amal has seen and recognized the efforts of these people and organizations in making the world a just place. She has worked with such noble and famous individuals to fight injustice but when asked who she admired the most as a role model, she revealed it was her mother, Baria.

During a Q&A at the Texas Conference for Women in 2016, Amal reflected on her mother, a prominent journalist, as a significant role model. She praised Baria for her independence and dedication to her career while also maintaining a sense of balance in her life.

“She never lost her femininity and she believed the balance was important and that is something that stuck with me,” noted Amal.

This balance was evident in Amal, who, while attending the Albies, was also preparing to celebrate her 10th wedding anniversary with George. The two got married on September 27, 2014.

George Clooney had organized a date for them after the event. The couple appeared joyful as George revealed that Amal was unaware of their destination, but he had made special plans for the night.
