Quincy Jones always valued being a father and called it “one of the greatest blessings.” He loved that his kids could challenge him when needed. Here’s a look at his unique family and what they look like now.

Legendary music producer Quincy Jones recently passed away, leaving behind a legacy and seven children. The well-known songwriter had his children with five different women, each from different cultural backgrounds.

Quincy was incredibly proud of his family. He often talked about how talented each of his children was and how proud he was of them. Having been married three times and involved with women from various cultures, he addressed public opinions about this in an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

When Oprah mentioned that some people thought he only dated white women, Jones responded, “I have been with every kind of woman of every nationality,” explaining that he didn’t let race or location limit his relationships.

Quincy Jones believed that being in interracial relationships meant he was free from boundaries, a view he carried with pride throughout his life. Through these relationships, Quincy embraced fatherhood, raising six daughters and one son. In a Father’s Day post from June 2018, he reflected on the joy and responsibility of fatherhood.

He wrote, “Never underestimate your role in your kid’s lives…I learned that a bit later in my life, but I’m so glad I finally figured it out because being a father is hands down one of the greatest blessings!!”

Quincy also shared a lesson from his own father, who used to say, “Once a task has just begun, never leave it ’til it’s done. Be the labor great or small, do it well or not at all.” This advice inspired Quincy to be dedicated to his work and his family.

His daughters, whom he loved deeply, always supported him, even holding him accountable when needed. Quincy remembered a family “intervention” and expressed gratitude, saying, “I’m so grateful for my daughters because they aren’t scared to stand up to their daddy. I am an imperfect human, and I’m not afraid to say it.”

The Chicago native acknowledged that his long life had led to misunderstandings and public controversies, but his daughters’ honest support helped him grow, even at 85.

Through all his success and struggles, the musician’s greatest strength and growth came from his family.
