In a surprising turn of events, comedy legend Steve Martin, known for his iconic roles in “Saturday Night Live,” “Pink Panther,” and “Father of the Bride,” has announced his retirement from the entertainment industry at age 75.Martin, who currently stars in the hit series “Only Murders in the Building” alongside Martin Short and Selena Gomez. A Farewell to Comedy’s Legendary Maestroo Although “Only Murders In The Building” has shown that Steve Martin is still a fantastic actor after 60 years of career, it seems that Charles-Haden Savage may be the last role he ever gets.

 

In an interview for The Hollywood Reporter, the comedy veteran talks about finishing his big body of work.

“When this TV series ends, I won’t be looking for another one. I will not look for other movies. I don’t want to make brief appearances. This is, surprisingly, what I want to do”, said the 76-year-old.

After starting his career as a television writer and stand-up comic, Martin excelled as a film actor from 1981, starring in successful projects such as Father Of The Bride, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Planes, Trains, & Automobiles”.

He is also a musician and writer, while he wrote the novel “Shopgirl”, before starring in the 2005 film adaptation.

Despite his extensive acting career, “Only Murders In The Building” represents his first major role in a television series. Television appearances have been rare, although he did play the “Gavin Volure” episode of “30 Rock” in 2008.

“I have a family life that is really fun. To shoot a film now, to go somewhere else to live, I’m not willing to do that anymore. I can’t disappear for three months”, said the actor.
